Update: I don’t imagine I will be switching permanently to this format but I wanted to experiment with it because I recently bought myself a typewriter and I genuinely love it so much.

Hey it’s always good to experiment! How was it using the typewriter? Were you worried you’d hit the wrong key? Great writing by the way!

Thank you!
The typewriter was great, I wasn’t too worried about hitting the wrong keys actually but one thing I didn’t expect was how hard I had to hit the keys for it to register properly.
I’m really used to just lightly typing on my keyboard but on a typewriter that just wouldn’t fly (words will come out faded). It has really made me slow down and place more weight/emphasis on writing which is an unexpected bonus haha.

Right I get that. I wonder if that’s why so many writers like to have these old-fashioned typewriters and such. It forces them to concentrate instead of scroll over to Facebook or just type a bunch of shit so they can say they did it.

That’s a really good point, I’d imagine that’s a big part of the reason for some people!
(On the other hand as shallow as it is, typewriters are just so quaint & pretty, right?)

Yeah they have a lot of old-fashioned appeal, I’m just obsessed with productivity and economical spending habits so I could never talk myself into buying one! 😂

Really liked the format you did, could lead to a lot of creative possibilities if you continued it. Where did you find a type writer?

Thank you!
They’re actually surprisingly easy to find, I just bought one online on Gumtree (sort of like Australia’s ebay) 🙂

Beautiful poem Maggy and I love that you are using a typewriter. Yes, the keys are very hard to press down and I remember learning to type at school when I was just 14 and the teacher would place a frame over the keys only leaving enough room for our fingers, so we had to memorise the position of each letter. At 15, I won the North Queensland Typing Championships (they don’t hold events like that any more) and won a bright yellow, portable electric Adler typewriter – what a highlight that was for me. Enjoy your typewriter.

That’s so awesome, thank you for sharing your memories with me, it makes me wish I could have experienced that!
Have you kept that typewriter all this time? 🙂

No Maggy I have not kept that typewriter but remember it had been well used. I have relocated numerous times and have few possessions but many memories. Best regards – Marg.
